Vision

Freshwater Malawi Vision Statement:

Freshwater Malawi envisions a healthy society with sustainable water and sanitation facilities in the rural of Malawi.

HOW WILL THIS BE ACHIEVED?
The major change that is required within Malawi is for the people to want to change and to take responsibility for their future.

Communities continue to rely on outside assistance in order to provide the basic inputs of development. Equally important however, is for the communities themselves to be empowered with the maintenance of those facilities and thus they become the masters of their own destiny.

FRESHWATER MALAWI APPROACH
Freshwater Malawi incorporates appropriate “Community Based Management” or CBM training in all the areas where we work. This involves members of the community as well as government extension workers, who will be required to work together towards a brighter future in their region.

THE IMPORTANCE OF A LONG-TERM VISION
The trap of poverty is that it prevents people from planning into the future. How can I worry about tomorrow’s food security, when I am hungry today? By providing the basic needs within a community and guaranteeing some support, you empower the community to think beyond the immediate need and to work towards a brighter future for all Malawians.
