Water First Film Segment at UN Malawian Embassy with Malawi's First Lady
Filmmaker Amy Hart was invited to show a segment of Water First at a luncheon at the UN Malawian Embassy with Malawi's First Lady, Her Excellency Madame Callista Mutharika who has created a foundation called SAFE Motherhood to promote the advancement of women and vulnerable populations in Malawi.
The round table discussion was organized by the Malawi Mission at the UN. Amy was invited by Kelly Ernst, the lovely wife of His Excellency Brian Bowler, the Ambassador of Malawi to the UN. Like the First Lady, Kelly is also involved in building birthing clinics to improve conditions for women and new born babies in Malawi.
How was the luncheon, Amy?
"What an amazing experience! The First Lady is astoundingly beautiful, gracious and receptive, and she really listened openly to everything everyone had to say."
Everyone was energized and we feel confident we'll be able to create great projects together helping the women and families of Malawi.
Kelly Ernst had come to us to arrange to have Freshwater Project Malawi drill a well at a new birthing center that her non-profit organization, Make Malawi is building. It's a wonderful program and we feel very fortunate to be included in these powerful partnerships devoted to helping women and their families in Malawi.

A Walk for Running Water
October 24, 2010

Our sixteen-year-old "Water Angel," Hannah Cashen, organized yet another fundraiser for Freshwater Malawi titled, A Walk for Running Water. On Sunday, October 24, 2011, Hannah and a group of about 30 other generous clean water advocates came together for a walk around the fields of The Farm at Miller’s Crossing in Claverack, NY to portray the distance that many Malawian girls have to walk several times daily to access water.
After walking about 5K, the participants filled up their jugs with unclean water from a stream, and walked another 5K back to show the difficulties that many girls and women in develping countries endure.
Suggested donations were $10 - for a person or $20 for a family, others were able to donate additional amounts. The event raised more than $500 for water and sanitation projects in Malawi.
Please join us in extending our gratefulness to Hannah and her friends and family for yet another effort to help the people of Malawi to access fresh water sources and sanitation facilities.
If you are interested in organizing a similar event, please contact Amy Hart at info@hartproductions.org or 212-419-3578.
