Mission

Freshwater Malawi Mission Statement:

We are committed to the provision of water and sanitation services, and food security and nutrition to the rural communities of Malawi, primarily through the construction of water points, latrines and promotion of kitchen gardens.

EVOLUTION IN TIME:
Freshwater Malawi was originally intended to provide safe drinking water to disadvantaged people in rural areas of Malawi. While this is still a central goal of our organization, it has become apparent that the provision of water alone is not the most effective way to assist these communities. For this reason, Freshwater Malawi has evolved to provide more emphasis to the peripheral requirements of the communities such as sanitation and food security. With these additional goals, Freshwater has developed the capacity to construct pit latrines and irrigation systems in some villages, designed to simultaneously address the priorities of water supply, hygiene and food security – through sustainable and productive agriculture.

Freshwater Malawi has the capacity to undertake more complicated dam construction, wind mill and solar technologies for irrigation projects and will be looking for suitable places to implement such initiatives.

AREAS OF INFLUENCE:
The office of Freshwater is located in Chileka area of the Blantyre district in the southern region of Malawi. Since the Founders of the organization are from this area, we have the capacity and influence to help change the communities attitudes and behavior. The impact of Freshwater Malawi can be seen in the three areas of Blantyre: Kuntaja, Kapeni and Kuntembwe where we have worked since our inception.
